I’m just home from the celebration at Olympic Plaza.
Shawn was there. But I didn’t see her. The place was packed. I could hardly get a look at the stage.
Leave a comment if you know where and when she’s carrying the torch tomorrow, Tuesday.

Don’t get me wrong…..I am a Shawn Johnson fan, I think she is terrific. However, how does she get picked to carry the torch when there are Canadian olympians that are local to the Calgary region who were not selected? Thoughts?
I kind of agree with Ashley, what about somebody like Jennifer Robinson, or Brian Botiano, or Brian Orser, all decorated Canadian athletes. I mean I know both Brians are slightly busy these past two weeks coaching athletes at US Nationals but Jennifer Robinson would be a great choice!
I know all the recent Canadian Olympic gymnasts from Calgary were asked. Kyle and Nathan said yes. And ran. Adam Wong was not available. Kylie Stone is at College.
I doubt there were many local Olympians who were not asked.
It’s because 20 Americans are scheduled to carry the torch on Jan. 19, and Shawn gets picked as one of them. There are also many Canadians who will be carrying the torch tomorrow. So you should ask Canadian Olympics Committee why they didn’t select the Olympians you just mentioned.
BTW, I was answering the question from Ashley.
As an Olympian I can tell you that ALL CDN OLYMPIANS had the opportunity to run with the torch, just not all were able to run in there regions…if they didn’t it is either because COC didn’t have there contact info or they couldn’t to it
where will SHawn be today?
And when please
Isn’t Brian Boitano American? Born in California…
Yes Dana he is and he lives there now but he trained in Toronto for years.
I heard Shawn got to do this through her sponsorship with Coca-Cola. At any rate, it’s quite an honor.
Thanks Sarah for the reply. In response to Crazygym, a friend of mine who was an olympic athlete in beijing DID NOT get to carry the torch and she applied to carry in any region. Also, it was a not a matter of not having the contact information because her husband (also an olympian) was selected and carried in his home region.
All in all I think they have done a great job with making the torch run a real national event.
