Kyle Shewfelt – Horizontal Bar

Kyle’s was famous for his form and consistency on Floor and Vault.

But not many people remember his Horizontal Bar.

Not surprisingly, Kyle had superb form, line and technique. Some of the only “clean” stoop Stalders and Endos you’ve ever seen in MAG or WAG.

In 2004 I watched him do many “perfect” routines in sequence in training, often the only issue being whether or not his knees bent on the regrasp of Def.

This is how gymnastics is meant to be performed. (Horizontal Bar depresses me in 2010.)

Click PLAY or watch one of his routines on YouTube.

Kyle has a YouTube channel now where he’s archiving some of the Canadian team routines from the past.

As always beautiful form. I always thought Kyle was underrated and underappreciated on this event!

Rick,
why isn’t there a video of his Rings?

kidding………Kyle is a fabulous gymnast, everything that “Artistic Gymnastics” is supposed to be about….

additional:
1. (I know you know this)…easily, Canada’s greatest all-time representative for our sport
2. Nashwan al-Harazi’s all-time favorite gymnast
2a. in 2006 Nashwan arrived in Aarhus on the train from the Copenhagen airport…he was starved…the only place we found open was a McDonald’s somewhere in town…by complete co-incidence, the Canadian team had just finished training and showed up at the same place…i introduced my Yemen gymnast to Kyle….he was so encouraging and supportive….nothing out of the ordinary, just Kyle being the wonderful ambassador and spokesperson for the sport that he is…………
we hope to see you in BC at Nationals in May

Kyle’s posted his rings on YouTube, too. Wonderful … handstand.

GREAT to hear that story at the airport.

Wow. Beautiful in bar work. You’re right, that is how high bar should look. I don’t think he did bend his knees on the def recatch.
