shergymrag found more information on Florida coach Shane Downey who was paralyzed on a tumbltrak in 2000.
… I’m even more convinced that Shane should take some responsibility for his accident. As sher says, he’s certainly experienced enough to know to ask for a spot if he might need one.

That’s ridiculous. How can a grown adult be unable to make the decision to NOT do a tumbling pass without a spot? In other words, if he REALLY felt he needed one and asked and didn’t get one, he wouldn’t do it. The fact that he went feeling like he needed help WITHOUT help makes him a retard! He is playing the system so badly it makes me sick. Clearly he felt he didn’t need one and could do the pass, made a poor judgment and is going to screw this gym because of his poor judgment.
On the other hand, the employees should never have let him do anything on the equipment, either. But if he is going by the story that he wanted a spot and thought he needed one, my first question is, “Then why did you do it? Who was holding the gun to your head?
