ok so im 11 and i can only do half fulls. my gym coach told me to keep my shoulder not relaxed but nice and tight by my ears, along with my arms and to twist really fast to the right or left of my side. (i twist left) and i tried it and i STILL cant do it.. :( i can only do it at tumbling..i thought itd be easier on the trampoline then the tumble trak or rod floor. wrongggg

That's cool. I guess my suggestion would be to change the title so as to be a little less confusing.

Hey Troy. I understood him to "mean" that those are progressions. First add salto before and after. Later do 1/1 twist series. Standard progressions in the old Soviet system of the 1980s and 1990s.

So, let me see if I have this...

What you're saying is that the key to perfecting the full twist is to do a back tuck before and after it, and then if that doesn't work...

Do lots of fulls in a row?

Did I miss something, or is that one of the most useless "Gymnastic Minute"s ever?

I'm sure that he is a very good coach, but that is like saying you can get better at whatever you are doing wrong by continuing to do it a lot. I think we have too many coaches training kids that way already.

No offense to George, but I would like to see what kinds of drills and training he does to get to the point of kids doing nice straight fulls to begin with.

I like the "normal" arm position. Elbows bent and tight to the side of the body. Hands just below the chin.

Gymnasts from this arm position can raise or lower the arms to slow or increase the speed of salto rotation. As needed.

I'm thinking he means to wrap the arms across or torque the elbows.
