Obviously a great meet for the U.S.A.
But I’m particularly glad to see a Japanese gymnast on the podium. So often in the past their girls have been under rated, under appreciated.
Porgras was the greatest surprise. She’s gained a new worldwide fan club with her wonderfully elegant routines.

I agree Porgras was really fun to watch. She’s got “IT.” I like Sloan and Bross, but they don’t have IT the way Porgras does.
Fingers crossed for Porgras in beam finals!! She would have medaled if it hadn’t been for that fall.
so happy for koko! she had a solid performance
Progras was the only gymnast approaching artistic and with pretty lines. I hope this was a good experience for her since she’s so new to the scene – at least, I hadn’t heard of her until a month or so ago?
Did anyone else think Yurbatova was really good? I loved her bars and vault. She had a mistake on one of her turns on bars, but I love the composition of her routine, her lines, and her handstands just popped into position and looked perfect. I guess I’m missing something that the judges are deducting in her routines.
Kurbatova was WAY late on her clear hip 1/1, and she had messy legs throughout the exercise. Her handstands were not great either.
I get the feeling that Kurbatova holds back just a little bit. I think she’s capable of bigger tumbling on FX and BB. But she has a weird twisting technique: her DTY is actually a ½on-1½ off twisting Yurchenko. I don’t know if she can be a star in the future but after years of watching promising Russian gymnasts never living up to the expectations, I’m not very optimistic she can be.
