At her age and stage of life?
Wouldn’t an older, retired athlete be a better pick?
Or it is typical that active athletes are chosen?

If I recall correctly, she was chosen by her peers. They wanted her.
This isn’t unusual. Vera Sessina was elected to the RG athletes commission in 2008.
