Personally I think twitter is a stupid fad.
It’s weak and cryptic compared with Facebook. Not to mention other social networking services.
And inane. Have you ever actually read the garbled nonsense posted by Ashton Kutcher?
Yet twitter does have a few unique advantages, especially for bloggers like me that monitor the internets for interesting “news”.
Many stories break first on twitter.
Here are the most followed gymnastics twits that have signed on with wefollow.com.

Samantha Peszek is #1.

1. Ways to find good current information, breaking news
2. We have gotten ideas for the Gymnastic Minute from tweeting out & getting response.
3. Able to follow competitions when not there…fun!
4. Always know where my fav gym blogger is & what he is up to…btw how was the run?
I agree with you Rick…I find it just nonsense
I like it just for the gymnastics news that you get. You find out first if it’s USA news on Twitter. The girls are starting to announce their committments for NCAA on twitter also.
10km run was excellent, thanks, reiko.
I wrote it up on my hiking blog:

Considering Twitter’s been around longer than your site, you can’t call it a fad. Twitter’s been around since June of 2006. That’s going on three years:

It’s just that it’s gained more and more popularity in the last year. If you don’t like the celebs twitting, don’t follow them, simple as that.
Right BB. Certainly twitter is here to stay. The insane popularity of twitter is peaking … or will peak soon. It’s simply not as valuable or useful as they hype claims.
I’m not giving it up. But how twitter got popular while Friendfeed didn’t is astonishing to me.
