You all make some really good points and although I am a more than a month late into this conversation, I'd like to tell you that although there are many people who would not like to see the olympics in chicago, there are many who wouldn't like to see them in the other cities as well. Someone has to host it though, and I feel that Chicago is truly the place where friendship will shine.

I've been there ally. As exciting as having the games in NYC would have been, I (and many) didn't want the Upper West Side stadium and all the junk that comes with it.

If Rio gets it, I'm hoping it's a lot less dangerous than it was a few years ago. My company did business in Brazil and most hotels were like fortresses.

I know Toronto probably isn't trying for the games anymore, but they are loooong overdue.

I live in the Chicago area. You would be surprised how many people do not want the 2016 Olympics to be held here. There have been all kinds of petitions and groups formed to oppose it. Transportation is a huge issue, as well as some uncertainty on how some venues will be paid for. As much as I would love to see it happen, I'll be kind of surprised if Chicago does get it.

While I think it's about time a South American city hosted, I don't necessarily think it should be Rio. I don't think Chicago should get it either. O'Hara is the worst airport in the country and having the Olympics in that city will just make it worse.

I personally wish Buenos Aries should host..

It would be interesting to see how Brazil would fare with a home field advantage... though, if Sydney or the Pan Ams is any indication, it probably won't change much.

I'm curious if the IOC is factoring that pesky garbage-throwing incident into this decision.
