She’s no Shawn Johnson, but there’s some potential here.

Love the sarcasm!
This is one of my favourite dances of ALL time. Just the lightness, effortlessness and joy that she dances with leaves me in awe. If only I could ever be as good as her.
yeah!
Rick, not only can you not compare DWTS to ballet. It’s comparing apples to oranges. Both fruits but two very different fruits.
And not only that but the sarcasm is very offending. Ballet dancers are some of THE hardest working athletes in dance. Females that are en pointe put the equivlant of 2 tons of pressure on their feet. It takes incridable strength to dance en pointe.
No disrespect to ballet. Polina is a fantastic athlete.
My disrespect is for reality TV shows flinging non dancers into the spotlight.
I promise never to watch it again once Shawn is gone.
gorgeous!!
Why? It least they use professions in the world unlike other shows like “So You Think You Can Dance”. The show (both here and in Britian) use expirenced and seasoned professionals who not only work their butts off for that show but work as well in their own studios, teaching, and other stuff along that line.
Unlike SYTYCD, DWTS not only opens up the world of dance to celebs, but as well as America. It opens up the benefits of Ballroom dance (hello, Joey Fatone lost an amazing 40 lbs! That’s incridble). Not only Ballroom (and social dancing) a great workout but it teaches other things to children and adults. Such as manners. I won’t dance with a guy if he doesn’t ask poperly or in a decent way, if he tries to grab me or one of my friends, etc.
Ballroom and Social dance are excellent sources and learning and feeling movement as well. I had a student who was only taking the class I was teaching because of a female friend of his, tell me that he had no rhythm. At the end of the class, I asked him about the comment. He looked at his friend, then back at me, grinned and replied, “well I didn’t think I did” He had excellent rhythm.
Have you tried ballroom? If not, don’t knock it till you try it.
Look kids: Let uncle TCO arbitrate. Flipping is more important than arm waving. Gym is a sport. Dance is…dance. Stop with all the feminity and be like warriors. Ready to kill.
Mary Lou called the ball when she said that gym was becoming more athletic and would continue to do so. Stop making it all silly. Make it sporting. I don’t want my non-gym male friends making fun of it.
Just lovely – even without the sound (my speakers not working grr).

I, for one, am glad that the two disciplines of dance and gymnastics exist.
Well, THAT didn’t work – sorry.
It’s meant to be Baryshnikov in “White Nights”…
Loved it. I’ve grown up through dance, and gymnastics is a much later in life addition.
If only we could see that sort of artistry on floor from more people.
What a beautiful and captivating ballerina!
I agree it is absolutely is beautiful.
Uncle TCO, if you are suggesting dancing (ballet) is simply ‘arm waving’ and gym superior because it’s ‘flipping’ you are really ignorant.
As mentioned, ballet requires a lot of strength, flexibility and stamina and it is for men and women. You should try it some day!
