Suzanne Yoculan replace Márta Károlyi?

An idea suggested by marikis on College Gymnastics Board.

There are a dozen reasons why this won’t happen. But it’s certainly a compelling idea.

Who better to succeed Márta when she eventually steps down than a master mind College coach?

Suzanne is only in her mid-50s, at the top of her game.

I think it would work.

Lousy idea.

a. She had a coaching job and bagged it to sit and roll in her money for an early retirement.

b. She does NCAA, which is cheerleading.

c. She has less experience internationally.

d. Less experience with girls (not women).

e. Less experience with dealing with various coaches, athletes, etc. in a situation where they are not part of her program (virtual with little power, etc.)

f. Location?

——————–

Plusses:

a. Good at motivating her vixens.

b. Has no current gym distracting her.

I don’t buy it. I see someone like Geddert taking over.

Martha prefers her name spelled as such. Ask her yourself.

Anon, Márta is the traditional Romanian spelling of her name. Martha is the Europanization of her name. Marta is correct.

Yes, Katrina I’m sure you know better than the woman herself what she likes to be called.

Anon, if you listen to anybody talk about her, they say Marta. Go listen to these video:

Both Marta, not Martha

Hell no!!!

Suzanne is used to the freedom of college coaching so I can’t imagine her wanting to work for within USAG’s rules. Does anyone remember Greg Marsden disastrous tenure at USAG and his quick exit (smart move on his part).

Since the position of coordinator isn’t going away, I’d rather see a Mary Lee Tracy or Kelli Hill type running the program. The Karolyis can’t go away fast enough.

Bring back Bela.

#11 anon1 on 04.23.09 at 9:37 pm

I just want the camps to move out of texas, I’m so sick of that place. Kelli has no interest in taking over, and MLT…LOL please no…never….ever. (I’m dead serious) Bring Bela back??? what? do you realize the bullshit he’s pulled over the years…he is not wanted around the national team by anyone.

I was teasing about Bela. He’s getting old. Why not Valeri?

Martha is pronounced the same as Marta. The official website for Karolyi’s camp spells it Martha. Just because there’s a traditional spelling of a name doesn’t mean people will always stick to it, Kathrine. ;)

Sherg, since part of my heritage is Romanian, I will never prounce Marta and Martha the same. Or Kathrine is not prounced without the “h” sound. That’s just ridiculious. To me that’s Kathrine like “cath – rine”. Not to mention, Kathrine isn’t a form of my name.

“Sherg, since part of my heritage is Romanian, I will never prounce Marta and Martha the same. ” If her name is Martha and you say Marta, then you are pronouncing them the same.

“Not to mention, Kathrine isn’t a form of my name.” Look it up.

I never said you (or she) pronounced it Martha. I said she preferred it SPELLED that way. And she does.

Simmer down girls. Don’t make me spank you…

I go by Katrina but that’s not my actual name. My full name is German and does not in any shape come from Kathrine.

No actually I’m not. I pronounce Martha like Mar tha, with a “Th” dipthong. I pronounce Marta like Mar Ta (Ta as in the beginning sound of Tar). Two very big differences.

“I go by Katrina but that’s not my actual name. My full name is German and does not in any shape come from Kathrine.”

Why would I make a remark about your full name which I don’t even know. My point was name spellings don’t always stay the same so it doesn’t matter what the traditional Romanian spelling of Martha is. Martha apparently chooses to spell her name M-A-R-T-H-A and she chooses to pronounce it Mar-Ta. Do I know why? No. But I do know it’s not the only name that’s not always pronounced like it looks. That’s the thing with names. Somebody named Martha might be Mart or Mart-eh or Mar-tha or Marth. With many different languages using basically the same alphabet you get a lot of names that end up sounding a little different than they are spelled. It could depend on where somebody actually come from and where they eventually move to or where the name originally came from that parents choose for a baby even though the parents were never from their themselves. Martha K. is from Romania but that doesn’t mean her name is.

“No actually I’m not. I pronounce Martha like Mar tha, with a “Th” dipthong. I pronounce Marta like Mar Ta (Ta as in the beginning sound of Tar). Two very big differences.” I highly doubt you say Mar-Tha Karolyi instead of Mar-Ta Karolyi. If you are saying Mar-Tha Washington, I believe you.
