That is terribly disappointing. Chusovitina’s presence in this sport has brought out some wonderful qualities, like casting doubt on the belief that you have to be 16 and springy, and the way the community rallied around her during her son’s illness. i’d love to see her compete forever, but I can understand why she would want to retire. Her last injury may have given her the downtime she needed to realize her heart wasn’t in it. At least she has that coaching gig in uzbekistan.
If I’m remembering right, she only has 2 medals out of 5 Olympics. That’s the definition of perserverance to me…knowing you have such little chance at a medal/event finals and continuing on anyways.
I think she will be an excellent coach as she is one of the prime examples of dedication & hard work.

Anything is possible, APO. Lots of people have married and had children only to decide late in life that they’d like to be part of a same sex relationship.
