Started just April 16th, I’m already impressed with the quality of the 3 posts, so far.

From the editor:

For sixteen years, I’ve taken part in the great sport of gymnastics. I trained as a gymnast for eleven years and I am now in my fifth year of coaching professionally. Everyone has their reasons for feeling passionate about something in their lives. I’d like to introduce you to mine. …

Full Twist – What are you passionate about?

Talent identification is generally a waste of time. Gymnasts can be great even if they aren’t naturally strong or flexible or if they are “too tall”. What’s left is coaching, parental support, and gymnast attitude.

And this guy is another person who thinks the parents of a talented kid who only does rec is “wasting her talent”. This kid may miss out on being a good gymnast but she’ll also probably miss out on some injuries and gymnastics related expenses too.

That blog left an awful taste in my mouth. As shergymrag said “And this guy is another person who thinks the parents of a talented kid who only does rec is “wasting her talent”. ” —-That paragraph alone started my annoyance with the blog.

Another note… did I miss Shannon leaving Dynamo for any significant time or is the blogger just referring to Bela somewhat overseeing Olympic competitions by being the main coach on the floor? — “Bela Karolyi, a world renowned gymnastics coach who produced nine Olympic Champions and has coached many stars including Mary Lou Retton, Shannon Miller & Dominique Moceanu…” — Suppose I should ask them huh?

Rick, I do not know how in your right mind, you find this blog with good content!

“I steer well clear of criers. If by the age of five a child can’t stop crying at everything and anything,”
By the age of five, especially if they’re in a new place, they’re still going to cry! Jesus they’re only five, not 12.

“may sound harsh but a gymnast must be emotionally as well as physically strong”
Yes it is but not when the kid is only five. Then gymnastics is only about moving and having fun

“Bela Karolyi, a world renowned gymnastics coach who produced nine Olympic Champions and has coached many stars including Mary Lou Retton, Shannon Miller & Dominique Moceanu”
Bela never Coached Shannon with the exception of being at meets and then still not really. Yes he was the coach on the floor but Steve was there too coaching.

That writer as a extremely arrogent attitude and frankly I won’t read it.

I liked it. He was keeping it real. Rick kinda keeps it real too. The rest of you little PC wooses just want to have little lies fed back to you. Well tough.

I think shergymrag summed up my feelings on the blog pretty nicely.

I don’t think I’ll be spending much time reading that blog.

    TCO,

Because of the arrogant tone of the blog, you can be forgiven for thinking the author is male…but she’s not.

Apart from the Shannon Miller/ Bela Karolyi thing, I liked it very much. I don’t find it arrogant, on the contrary, quite friendly, but realistical. He/ she has the right attitude IMO.
