Oh my… i wasn’t expecting that !! Great spottt !
Wow that almost gave me a heart attack! I’m assuming the girl was totally fine? (And he was totally fine?). YIKES.
I was wondering how he was going to get from all the way behind that mat to catch her!
that was amazing! i have so much love and respect for my coaches over the years for the awesome & random saves that weren’t caught on camera!!
I’m going to trust by “greatest gymnastics spot ever” you’re being facetious, because that was clearly just impressive luck. Good reflexes, but obviously not preparation. (Unless she does that all the time in the gym, in which case, probably the worst coach in the world for letting her compete it…) It’s also a “catch” or a “save,” and not a “spot,” but that’s beside the point.
When I was a judge at meets, I’d see maybe a dozen L5/6 girls over the weekend peel off the bars in her tap swings and smack face first on the mat. Then I mentored under some great coaches, and learned wise bar coaches stand in between the bars for those two tap swings. His kids swung big and yet never peeled off, but if they were going to, he was behind them and ready.
Yes. That was the luckiest spot of all time. He could hardly have avoided slowing her fall!
I assume he was holding the mat to keep it from sliding.
Luck or not … that coach just had an awesome save
Holy crap! Talk about quick reflexes!
Yeah I don’t even think I could of reacted that fast for that fall. That was amazing!!!
I’m glad she’s okay. That cracked me up though. I had to watch it again.
