NY Daily News – Contract reveals ‘Dancing with the Stars’ is paying Shawn Johnson big bucks

Because 17-year-old Shawn is still a minor, a Judge was required to approve her contract with the ABC hit TV show. The contract was then made public after being filed with the L.A. County Superior Court.

We wonder how her contract compares with the other “stars” on the show?

I was wondering how her parents could afford the flights from Des Moines to LA for all of the shows and all of the subsequent hotel costs.

Considering the multitude of stories on them pre-Olympics taking a 2nd mortgage on their house to fund Shawn’s training…

I’m assuming they’ve both quit their jobs now? I don’t know of many employers in this economy who would let them have off for those extended periods.

Really? I thought it was just her mother that was with her and I didn’t think she was flying back and forth. She may have quit or she may have taken a leave of absence. I don’t know. Also, Shawn was reported to be making $500k plus from her combined deals before she got DWTS.

Im pretty sure that it was in an article that Shawn’s mom moved out to LA with her for the duration of the season and they got an apartment.

Her father still keep working in Des Moines and fly to see her every Monday.
Her mother is keeping along with her and rented an apartment in L.A. for living.

And I wonder if coach Chow go to L.A. to watch her.

Certainly Shawn must have a dozen other “deals” aside from the base contract for DWTS.

You never hear about her agent in the way we hear about Nastia’s agent, though.

Actually, Coach Rick, Sheryl Shade is a pretty high profile agent. I’ve seen her quoted in a lot of articles about Shawn. She represents quite a few gymnasts including the Hamm twins, Chellsie Memmel, and Vanessa Atler in the past. Nastia is the only gymnast her agent represents and I think that’s why he gets so excited about her.

The only major thing in her contract that differs from the other competitiors on the show is the amount of practice time and hours she can train because she’s a minor.

And just a side not, it’s not ABC’s hit per se… it’s the BBC’s BBC started the show back in England and is still running

I think that the other contestants only make 100K though, and that they only get bonuses if they are in the top 3.

No Mona. It’s true for her too:

Johnson made it past the first two eliminations and will pick up $20,000 ($10,000 per week) for her participation in weeks three and four of the competition. If she makes it past next week—and she’s got to, right?—the price goes up to $20,000 per for weeks five, six and seven.

Weeks eight and nine will net her $30,000 per, and if she’s still fox-trottting along in weeks 10 and 11, she’ll bank $50,000 for each.

Overall, she’s looking at a $365,000 take for a few months of heavy no-lifting.

Sheryl Shade.

Of course.

My mistake. I know the name well.

What I meant was that I read that the other stars (not Shawn) only got a 100K signing bonus, and that they my not get those bonuses for each week they stay in the competition.

Sheryl Shade is also Shannon Miller’s agent, isn’t she?
