Theoretically they should catch in the upright position, assisting the landing but not 'doing the landing for them' in a way. But most assist from about 45 degrees past vertical (just past half a salto)

'What if the catchers miss?' that is like saying 'what if the top overrotates?' or 'what if the tumbler takes off awkardly?' or 'what if the gymnast lets go of the bars too early?' All of these errors could be tragic but hopefully enough practice goes in to ensure that all members of the group are well-prepared and on their game.

They catch close to shoulder stand position. 2 1/2 salto.

That's what worries me.

What if the catchers miss?

Some of those triples seem somewhat underrotated. Is this a mistake, or is it proper technique to enable a safe landing / catch?

Do you think a quadruple backflip off hb is possible? Maybe by Horton? In the belt for safety?
