Questions Remain – Taylor Lindsay-Noel

That’s the title of an important post on Gymbrooke regarding the catastrophic injury to former Seneca gymnast Taylor Lindsay-Noel.

That post leaves us with one question:

Should GO (Gymnastics Ontario) or GCG (Gymnastics Canada Gymnastique) be required to inform members as to what happen and what steps have been taken to avoid similar types of accidents?

… I’m not sure of the answer. But it’s a very valid question.

I can tell you coaches were talking of the accident and lawsuit today at a distant competition I attended in the States. And — due to the secrecy of the details of the injury — these distant coaches are assuming that the Seneca coaches are liable.

I’ve never seen specifics of what happened. Though many rumours have floated.

Seems that Taylor was training a very difficult and dangerous new bar dismount.

I hope the facts are released soon.

Sadly, I would absolutely bet my last dollar that the silence, the distance, the “abandonment”, are all ordered by the legal team representing the coaches. A very broken system in our world, where we do the legal thing rather than the right thing….

It’s pretty devastating what has happened to Taylor Lindsay-Noel at 14 years old. There’s no question that the coach in question, Brian McVey is 100% liable. My understanding is that Taylor was asked to do a “banned high bar skill” without any safety measures in place: no foam pit, no spotting and no harness. Apparently she told the coach that she didn’t want to do the skill because she was too scared and he inisted. An absolute tragedy that no one wants to take responsibility for. I hope Taylor’s mom has secured a good lawyer and go after the coaches, and all relevant gymnastics bodies so this child is given back at least a part of her life that’s been destroyed.

I really appreciate Jean trying to get some truthful information out to people and members should have the right to know EXACTLY what happened. I hope they Noel’s win their legal battle and coaches surely have learned from this just what an important job they have with the yfmist highest level of responsibility to provide safety.
