Charles Lakes did the highest and most unique Tkachev I’ve ever seen. He was the first black American gymnast to compete in the Olympics and was also the top American finisher in 1988 Seoul, Korea. HIs Jaeger was also the highest and most unique I’ve ever seen.

Jordan’s Tkachev does look slightly higher than Anna Li from UCLA.

Who competed the highest Reverse Hecht you’ve ever seen.

It’s hard to tell if it’s higher than Lis but they are both a lot of fun to watch! I’d love to see some Geingers out of these – or maybe another Tkatchev.

Ron Levendag. Kidding.

Lakes was huge.

Oh…and that girl has a nice dismount. too bad our little AA Oly champ with the UB code whoring, can’t do a D dismount to save her soul.

I’d say without a doubt that the highest reverse hecht I’ve ever seen was by Chris Young. I can’t seem to find any videos of him, though.

JM’s T was indeed BIG. Very rotated too.

What’s up with her teammates holding the bars?

#5 gymnast78 on 02.26.09 at 9:18 am

Shergymrag, it looks like the bars easily lose their tension. It always happened a lot when bars are set up like this for meets in what looks to be a hotel ballroom. It really throws you off when you change bars or do a release move and the tension goes (the bars get loose and shaky) so I’d have my teammates hold the bars too.

As a group, Champions Gymnastics from Edmonton has some really high tkatchevs!

I think the reason why it *looks* bigger is she gets very nice counter-rotation which makes the “fall” from the top of the height look huge.

Compared to Lis they looked very similar in height to be honest… Moore definitely gets her arms up with her and better counter-rotation with her legs.

If Kupets waited a bit longer in hers and got better counter-rotation it would probably be the same “height” as the other two.

Shrug… it is what it is. Looks big and looks nice the way Moore does it. Probably the most impressive one I’ve seen.

“Jordan’s really good on bars”??? Who was that gifted commentator?

this one’s for you, TCO

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/marcEmarc/Nastiabeautifuldoublefronthalf.gif

she’s not 16 and she’s not 4’10, it’s hard for her to do this after such a marathon routine

#10 apolytongp on 02.26.09 at 5:14 pm

Marcus:

Please expand discussion. (Not even arguing…just can you spell out the point a little more?)

#11 apolytongp on 02.26.09 at 5:16 pm

BTW, I’m not inclined to have sympathy for the “marathon routine”…since that is created from code whoring. It’s not like she just does top skills…but she also goes way long in time. Given that the whole rationale for allowing piro CV is to stop empty giants…I have little sympathy for “marathon routine” whining.

wow apolyton, you must really like Nastia if you keep finding excuses to bring her up.

by the way, i was just wondering, how’s your bar dismount looking?

#13 Jan on 02.26.09 at 8:48 pm

I bet apolyton has a really stylish way of getting out of bars.

#14 ryantroop on 02.27.09 at 12:14 am

gotta admit.. that’s a stupid nice double layout…. (I know, it had a little pike.. but it wasn’t arched!! which to me, made it cool).

How do you guys go about teaching that tight body hold for rotation like that? Is that just a lot of body holds, or is it resistance training?

#15 Marcus on 02.27.09 at 6:41 am

I prefer the archy double layout a la Bridget Sloan and Courntey Kupets, but not overarched like Laura Campos

#16 shergymrag on 02.27.09 at 7:53 am

You’ll never twist an archy double layout nicely though. If a coach has any aspirations of getting his gymnast to a FTDL or DTDL, straight is the way to go.

#17 AM on 02.27.09 at 1:44 pm

I was never a Dominque Moceanu fan, but she had one of the better double layout dismounts I’ve seen. Worst double layout flyaway: Shannon Miller hands down.

#18 MissEducated on 02.27.09 at 3:53 pm

I love Grace Taylor’s double layout dismount… lovely straight shape.

#19 MissEducated on 02.28.09 at 6:10 am

And Courtney McCool’s double layout was also beautiful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfMii5QzKIg

#20 apolytongp on 02.28.09 at 7:09 am

Too bad Nastia can’t even DO ONE. Some master of the sport. Some champion. What a farce.

#21 alexandrite105 on 02.28.09 at 9:05 am

find something new to say apolyton. i guess you’re ignorant of the fact that until fairly recently nastia competed a double layout, and that she’s 5’3″. of course layouts will be harder for her, but she did them anyway, and now, she’s doing a new dismount.

#22 apolytongp on 02.28.09 at 9:31 am

Yeah…and her new dismount sucks. She’s an upside down frog with splayed out legs.

There must be something wrong in Nastia lovers’ brains that makes them defend her. Who cares if she used to do a move before? Maybe she was decent then. But I am talking about what she does now. And who cares how long her routine is. That’s her choice. It’s pathetic that she can’t do a decent D dismount on her signature event. And then when the Nastia clones start yammering about seeing her doing a dlo years ago on tumble tramp into the pit…as a defense of her (completely obvious to the eye) pathetic lack of tumbling. Sheesh.

But other than that…I wish you and her no ill. Peace.

#23 alexandrite105 on 02.28.09 at 9:38 am

THEN QUIT BADGERING THE ISSUE. LET IT GO ALREADY.

#24 apolytongp on 02.28.09 at 11:14 am

I promise not to Nastia bash in irrelevant threads (only when it is about Nastia or a clone brings her up). But no more threadjacks when it is not Nastia as the subject. If I slip will donate $5 to charity.
