child killed on backyard trampoline

Can this be true?

… A 4 year-old boy accidentally hanged himself yesterday in what Springs police say is a freak trampoline accident. ‘Angel’ was playing on a trampoline at his home on Wooten Dr. in Colorado Springs when his neck got caught in a cord. …

Terrible. Terrible.

I don’t like backyard tramps. But this sounds to be an unbelievable fluke accident.

Like any other big things like this, the parents NEED to watch! You can’t just leave your kids playing on these things. Anybody under the age of 12 needs to be watched. These parents are negligent. I think Trampolines are a great form of exercise but the parents need to be there. Even Swing sets.

PLEASE put backyard trampolines IN-GROUND. With safety guards over springs. It’s pretty simple people.

I don’t think the tramp being inground would’ve changed a thing in this case. You can never replace proper rules and supervision, if you can’t provide both DON’T get a trampoline.

Horrible for the family regardless.

I have always hated backyard trampolines – most people are just not qualified to properly supervise and instruct. Stories like this make me feel nauseous. In Vegas we have the added issue with pools – it is for this my son is in a Survival swim course at age 10 months. Somehow we need something to teach parents about the dangers of these seemingly “fun” injury weapons. I have noticed too, that most gym coaches don’t have these in their back yards – we know better.

So sad for the family, simply heartbreaking.

I saw a little girl get her earing caught in one of those same nets and almost rip her ear off. Regardless of whether you are watching your children, trampolines can be dangerous. Do yourselves a favour and take your kids to a local gym to have them play on an in-ground trampoline that is surrounded by pits and mats. Even myself, a certified coach, would NEVER have a trampoline in my backyard. Just asking for trouble really.
