This is an update to a post I originally wrote for Gymnast.com …
I am happy with my decision to have liposuction, and in a way wish I would have done it sooner!
So says 22 year-old Jessica, a cheerleader and gymnast with an athletic build, who found that any extra weight she gained went straight to her thighs.
Jessica is typical of many successful acrobatic athletes. 5’3″ tall with a mesomorphic build.
She was not obese nor even particularly overweight. Only frustrated that her formerly muscular legs got so BIG as a young adult.
… frustrated with buying size 7-9 jeans that were too loose for her tiny size 3 waist, Jessica started researching the possibility of having a liposuction. …
I know nothing about liposuction. But found the article linked above fascinating.
Leave a comment if you have an opinion. Is this a good option for former acrobatic athletes?
Or should ex-gymnasts simply stay in shape as did 1984 Olympic Champion Mary Lou Retton, still considered a “Celebrity Babeâ€.

If you’ve seen Nadia lately, she looks great too.

Shayla Rae must take after her dad!
I believe Nadia has had some work done, at least on her face. And let’s not forget Shannon Miller. Plastic surgery is nothing new to the sport.
Are muscular thighs bad things?
Look at speed skaters or hockey players… My boyfriend used to be both and he had to buy jeans with a size 40″ waist to fit over his muscular butt and legs, take them to the tailor and get the wasit brought in.
When I was in gymnastics I never had that problem, but now that I’m CrossFitting my butt and thighs are getting much larger. Dress pants not so bad to buy as they generally have the wider leg (which isn’t so wide when I put them on). But jeans… you just have to select the right style. I’m a size 0, but will buy any size I need and get them tailored to fit.
I for one am proud of my musclar legs, no matter what “size” they are. If you stay in shape and feel good, sizes and weights mean nothing to me.
Eloquently said, Katrina.
Speed skater Catriona Le May Doan comes to mind as one beautiful woman with huge muscular legs. They looked great.
Many female figure skaters have the same problem too. Though tailoring can get expansive, I think as long as they’re healthy they really shouldn’t consider plastic surgery. It’s just to dangerous.
Am I the only one who doesn’t see much of a difference in her thighs?
Tailoring expensive?
I can get the waist of my pants taken in at a local tailor for $10. I don’t consider that expensive. And it’s not like she does a bad job. Hunt around. for a good tailor, or better yet, learn to sew yourself.
I’d rather just stay in shape and I am sure it is much better for you.
Nadia has obviously had plastic surgery but I have a feeling she keeps herself in very good shape, as well.
Nadia and “some work done?” Umm, she’s a spokesperson for Botax and is practically unrecognizable anymore. Someone needs to stage an intervention, for plastic surgery and tanning beds. But no plastic surgeon keeps her in the shape she’s in. Girl is almost 50 for pete’s sake. She works her ass off to look that!
