gymnast most likely to succeed?

There are a few I could name …

I have a good feeling that Jordyn Wieber of the USA will stay healthy and be tough to beat in the coming quadrennial. Her coach, John Geddert, is brilliant.

Rumour is that Jordyn just won the Top Gym competition held in Charleroi, Belgium. (15.000 vault, 15.250 bars, 15.000 beam, 14.550 floor)

I assume that is new code. Eight counting value parts for difficulty.

Andrew Thornton has a Jordyn Wieber spotlight including videos on Gymnast.

Gymnast most likely to disappoint over the next 4 years?

I’m sorry to predict, the over-hyped Louis Smith from England.

He’s definitely building expectations in the UK too high. Arrogance is not a good quality in a gymnast. Check his video interview in the Times Online.

He’s entertaining.

But a guy with circles like his would be thrown out of any gym in China. I’m not sure that technique can be improved. Louis has one of the best coaches in the world, too: Paul Hall.

I don’t envy Paul’s task in preparing him for the 2012 Olympics. Louis will face a bit of a backlash from the many who feel he did not deserve to get into the Pommel Final in Beijing.

Of course his circles aren’t going to be at their best if he’s just back from a break after the olympics.

I thought new codes don’t get used until the year after the Olympics. It would be January before we see scores from the new code.

No, Canada has already switched. Elite Canada in December and trials are new code for us.
