[...] Dancing Italians At Gymnasticscoaching.com in the comments section of an article about Paola Galante, poster Francesca Ciappetta claims that the Italians actually dance on floor. Â I was skeptical because I’m only familiar with what Ferrari has offered. Â Not terribly artistic. Â Ciappetta posted proof though. Â Check out this lovely 2005 routine from Francesca Benolli. Â you know a routine is good when the music is not your style but you can still appreciate the artistry. Â That was wonderful. Â Of course, you are saying, “2005? Â Before the code changed and all but a few die hards stopped dancing?” Â What a coincidence. Â That’s exactly what I said. Â Francesca’s 2007 routine is still very dancey.
Of course Paola is a very beatiful gymnast. I think that she's our next best gymnast but she isn't the only one. Italian coaches are making a good job and honestly I like to watch italian gymnasts because they do ARTISTIC gymnastics and not only tumbling!!! I fell in love with soviet floor exercises and I would like to see gymnasts who can give me emotions not only big skills!
This is the floor exercise of Francesca Benolli at 2005 european championship: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5f2vZkfRmzM. And this is her floor on 2007 italian championship: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RNJlVq3BVc&feature=related (she didn't do the same skills due to her knee injury). This is Lia Parolari's floor exercise at world championship: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBZ1bgQSMSY and at bejing Test Event: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkEOVSCB3z0&feature=related. She is another very flexible italian gymnasts. She is our swan (here some photos: http://www.gymfan.de/2007/images/wm2007/wm2007-119070.jpg, http://www.gymfan.de/2007/images/wm2007/wm2007-119418.jpg, http://www.gymfan.de/2007/images/wm2007/wm2007-113764.jpg). So, what do you see in this floor exercises? THEY DANCE!!! And they aren't the only ones in Italy to do it. It's for this artistic research that I'm very proud. What do you think about these floor exercises? And what do you think about these gymnasts?

[...] 3) Italy’s juniors were incredibly impressive, which I was delighted to see. And one girl, I unfortunately forgot to write her name down (UPDATE - Paola Galante) was a testament to the fact that a gymnastics audience still loves to watch the dance portion of floor. This girl clearly used to study rhythmic gymnastics, and she did a 2 and a half Memmel turn, absolutely stellar, with her leg in a complete 180 split. It was so beautiful, the crowd gasped and applauded more than for any other trick I saw all weekend (except for Tweddle’s new bar release - more on that later). [...]
