The best thing about the internet are RSS feeds. (Really Simple Syndication)
Yet fewer than 10% of people use RSS. That’s a shame.
To see how it works, click PLAY or watch a 4min amusing tutorial on YouTube.
To find out what’s new on GymnasticsCoaching, you can come on by when you get the urge — SLOW way.
Or subscribe by RSS through a feed reader — FAST way. (Google Reader recommended.)
Of course, you can subscribe by email. But who really wants more email cluttering their inbox?
RSS is the best, by far. It takes only about 5 min to get started with (Google Reader.
Unfortunately, some of my favourite websites do not yet have an RSS feed from their home page. Which of these dinosaur sites will add RSS last, do you think?
* American Gymnast
* GYMmedia Germany
* Gymn.ca Canada
* I-NEEDtoKnow
* Inside Gymnastics
* International Gymnast
* Technique USA
* USA Gymnastics
* USECA USA

I will be presenting internet tips like RSS to some of the top coaches in Canada at a Level 4 coaching clinic right after Elite Canada in December. For once I’m scheduled some personal time to work with each on streamlining their computer work flow.

On the other hand – and no offense – but I have considered removing the feed from my site. As much as I like the idea of ‘streamlining’ the internet experience for everyone, it is not exactly in my best (financial) interest drive actual viewers away from my site. On the other, other hand, my ignorance on the whole subject of RSS should never be underestimated! I would welcome any advice/suggestions about this.
Right.
The compromise is to offer partial RSS feeds which provide a teaser to the entire post. You click through to read the rest.
Personally I hate partial feeds and often unsubscribe to blogs the first time I get frustrated.
Some of the top blogs (Lifehacker.com, for example) use Feedburner.com to insert ads into their RSS feeds.
I may do that myself one day. I’m not sick of those ads … YET.
The jury is still out.
In 2007 there is SO LITTLE REVENUE in blogging that it’s hardly worth the bother fussing with them.

You have to look to find the Google ads on this page. They are buried.
Thanks, excellent points well taken, especially concerning revenue. OK, I guess I will leave the full feed on for now. I have to say, I’m not sure I would want to ‘feed’ ads to my readers (as few as they are!), either, even though I am likely to go broke trying to make any money from my college gymnastics content.

[...] Thanks to Moe Schober who edits the site. I’ll be checking in often. (Though not nearly as often as if it had an RSS feed.) [...]
[...] Congratulations to whomever is responsible for this huge upgrade. I’ll be far more actively engaged at the new site now that you have an RSS feed. [...]
[...] On the VOX network, Lightbulb Hands – The Perfect 10 Lives is a pretty blog as well. I have to visit the site directly — Lightbulb Hands — as Google Reader cannot seem to find an RSS feed. And it has no “subscribe by email” function. We’ve linked to it under BLOGS in the right hand navigation. [...]
