video – forward hip circle machine

Peter Soul from Integrity Gymnastics in Ohio makes many training aids including a forward hip circle teaching device for bars.

It is awkward to get into — but quite fun and easy to swing a series of forward hip circles.

A group of coaches at Mismo Gymnastics were discussing the many reasons why it will not work — when it did work. One of the girls did forward hip circle on her own right after doing a series in the machine.

Looks interesting. I do wish, as with most videos here, that they were put on some other host than YouTube, so that we could slow down the video. At the least, it would be nice if the actual clip was longer. It’s hard to tell how to make this device yourself when the clip barely lasts 10 seconds.

Right. I’m not sure how Peter made this one. And he does not sell them commercially. Sorry about that.

Though I like the professional look of this device, it is based off an old remedy: rope.

Take a piece of rope and tie it the same way you see the device, behind the back, around the bar, then around the back of the thighs (where i usually tie the knot). Takes a little practice, but if the hip circle is your focus that day, it’s a great way to keep yourself from having the spot.
