gymnastics coaching

ethics

Gymnastics coaches are viewed with suspicion by some in the general public — wrongly, we feel. No sport spends more time & money protecting children than gymnastics.

There are unethical coaches in every sport, however, and we need to put protections in place to protect athletes, officials & coaches. Coaches need police themselves — take action when you suspect unethical behaviour.

Little Girls in Pretty Boxes, Joan Ryan
Many coaches felt betrayed by Ryan’s well documented book on abuse of young female gymnasts and figure skaters. It is not balanced & presents a radically slanted image of our sport to the general public. Many feel she missed the mark targeting eating disorders as they are not endemic in artistic gymnastics.
