4,000 Blocks of foam (3,000 for big pit and 1,000 for bar pit) ($5/ cube) $20,000

Foam blocks are getting so expensive, it may be time to start planning to convert part of our pit to RESI. The GymNova version, for example:

Overhead belts are ideal for spotting backward handsprings, especially for older athletes. We do not yet have one but it is a consideration for the future.

Magic moment captured on Santa Monica beach.
I was searching for some art to “mash” into a header for a new blog focused on adult fitness through gymnastics.
So far this is my favourite image.
I wish on was there on the swinging rings right now.

Olympic Floor Champion Kyle Shewfelt is training for his third Olympics.
But it’s not easy when you are a National hero. As a popular motivational speaker, Kyle has no end of engagements and celebrity appearances around which to juggle training.
This time he’s off to the world’s most important Film Festival, a star in the critically acclaimed White Palms — a Hungarian film where Kyle plays a talented but problematic Olympic hopeful. (A scenario entirely fictional he’ll be quick to tell you.)
Around promotional appearances for the film, Kyle will be training with former coach Kelly Manjak.

The Canadian National Men’s Gymnastics Team trained at the Chinese National Training Centre June 30-July 12, 2006. Olympic Floor Champion Kyle Shewfelt sent some photos (posted on Flickr).

The Chinese are psyched for the 2008 Olympics. And the Canadians much enjoyed training with the host team. In fact, a number reported this to be their best ever international training camp.
To top it off, Brandon O’Neill took home 2 silver medals from a World Cup event in Shanghai.

We have many athletes training Capoera.
Kyle Shewfelt, Olympic Floor champion 2004, even considered adding Capoera elements to his routine.
Dozens of video games, TV commercials and films include Capoera movements.
So what is Capoera?
It’s a Brazilian martial art developed initially by African slaves. It’s interesting to coaches because it includes extreme acrobatic elements too difficult for gymnasts! One arm handstand spins, for example.
Good Capoeristas often also breakdance & take their acrobatics to the street.
There are plenty of video clips tagged with Capoera on YouTube.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
ALTADORE WEIGHTLIFTERS CLUB
March 29, 2006
Call to Order – Bob McGregor
Approval of Agenda
Martin Vetter amended the circulated agenda to move “Election of Board of Directors” to the end of the meeting.
Jeremy Mosier– Moved to accept Agenda.
Martin Vetter - Seconded
Approved.
FINANCIAL REPORT
Martin Vetter (Treasurer)
Martin gave a brief overview of our financial statement from last year.
Financials for last year are completed and signed off.
ACTION – Martin will copy Joyce (business manager) a copy of the email confirming our rental pre-payment.
ACTION - Joyce will put a printed copy of the email(s) in the AGC and AWC files. This way we will have both a hard copy and electronic copy confirming of our pre-payment.
ACTION – Bob will discuss specifics of our bank accounts with Joyce. Likely we will reopen one of our old accounts in order to more easily keep track of the daily training fees we collect.
ACTION – Bob will pass on our signed financial statement on to Joyce.
ACTION - Joyce will submit our financial statement to Corporate Registries.
ACTION – Martin. A new rental and services agreement was written up for the tramp club. We need one as well. Martin will email his latest version of that agreement to Bob.
ACTION – Bob will put it on the agenda for next meeting as we tabled it.
REPORTING REQUIREMENTS — SOCIETY ANNUAL REPORT
ACTION – Bob confirmed that our report is ready to go once we attach minutes and the results of today’s election.
ACTION – Bob will ask Joyce to attach financials and submit our Society Annual Report.
INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS
Joyce and Bob have looked into our insurance situation. We have been paying $20 / member to Gymnastics Alberta, yet they say we are not covered. We are not registered as a club with Gymnastics Alberta.
ACTION - Bob. We are covered under our own insurance with Toole Peet Therefore we will continue to collect a $20 membership fee but will apply it only to our own insurance costs, discontinuing the Gymnastics Alberta plan.
ACTION – Bob. Our liability insurance for Directors is also with Toole and Peet. But we will switch to another company (as Altadore did) for about a 30% cost savings. Bob will follow up, bringing it to the next meeting.
NEW BUSINESS
Altadore’s corporate sponsorship package is ready to go. Kim Johnson is working on it. We will follow that initiative with interest.
John Arnold and Eric noted that gaming funds must now be spent within 48 months.
ACTION – Rick McCharles to attend the “Facilitation to identify success measures” workshop on April 9th, 10AM – Noon, representing our organization.
ACTION – Bob has paperwork in hand for our official name change. He will forward the application on our behalf.
