October 31st, 2006 · No Comments

The two standard “throw mats” from Spieth are good.

Request 3 of the thinner ones.

equipment “wish list” - incline mats

October 31st, 2006 · No Comments

Altadore really needs more “cheese” mats.

All programs want them.

The smaller ones are frustrating, I feel. Bigger kids and adults can “miss” them too easily. The two largest sizes are best.

equipment “wish list” - low rings on a pulley

October 31st, 2006 · No Comments

Spieth does not sell rings on a pulley.

We could make our own. They would be very similar to the ring machine built by Ed Vincent.

Cost about $200.

equipment “wish list” - pommel mushroom

2 Mushrooms would be ideal. Perhaps one of each of these.

Spiethe w/out pommel $775.00 w/ pommel $900.00

Spiethe is known to be expensive.

Ultra Dome Complete by Gym Trix is listed on-line for only US$250 or so.

For another $100 the Ultra Dome adds this unusual single pommel. I’ve seen it, but not coached with it. Looks interesting.

equipment “wish list” - air mats

October 31st, 2006 · No Comments

So far as I know, only Gordon and TumblTrak sell air mats.

But AIR is the future of gymnastics mats. The cost of petroleum-based foam has climbed too high.

An air mat with a mat on top is perfect, I feel.

There are a number of shapes to choose from.

The best ones are the largest surface area, I feel.

equipment “wish list” - spotting platforms

October 31st, 2006 · No Comments

Jeremy has more photos.

Dennis Swensen manufactures these in Calgary at a good price.

Examples:

2 spotting platforms (Safety) for bars and horizontal bar (these photos from New Zealand)

A radical solution is to use movable air-filled port-a-pits. Hard to believe this works. But it does. Rick used them all the time at a gym camp in California.

After all, you only need a spotting platform a small percentage of the time. When not needed, they can be used for something else.

Two kids can transport these quickly.

These are used in any situation we now use a stack of mats. Air mats compared with foam are about one third the price. (I’ve emailed for a quote shipped to Canada.)
