We had a good crew of volunteers Jan. 4th cleaning and renovating our aging warehouse gym.
It’s never looked better, truth be told.
Thanks to all who helped out!

Altadore is nearly 40-years-old.
That means Ed must be at least that long in the tooth.
He built his own bunjie twisting belt. Click PLAY or watch the video clip on YouTube.

There is no more loyal or dedicated adult gymnast at Altadore than Gary Braniff.
His Energy Lake martial arts studio operates evenings — so Gary comes into train personally with coach Ed Vincent.
Here Gary arrives with the pre-training coffee for Sensai Ed.

A high priority for the club is to upgrade some of our aging equipment. Two reasons: safety and new program development.
Safety is self-evident. Altadore is almost 40-years-old. And some of the equipment dates back to the beginning!
We are very excited about new program development. It’s the future of the club.
Our adult recreation and fitness program is pretty stable. Not much changed for decades.
But the addition of our new Powertrack tumbling trampoline in 2007 will attract other kinds of adults. Especially cheerleaders, street tumblers, break dancers and circus athletes.
What equipment to purchase next?
If you have a suggestion, leave a comment on the bottom of this post.
Here’s one innovative proposal. Replace some of the old mats (right) with new air-filled port-a-pits (left).

This looks more like “stunt” training than a coach education course.

Yet these are instructors being “certified” during last week’s 3 day NCCP Level 1 Gymnastics coaching course. They are now eligible to coach in any club in the country.
By the way, Altadore coaches train for FREE at Adult Rec. One of the many fringe benefits of working for the club. Anyone age 16 or older can be trained to be a coach. Let us know at the gym if you are interested.
A video clip of the ladder drops (practicing “falling safely” if anyone asks) is posted on YouTube:

Here’s a shout out to Stephen Neal for organizing the recent floor renovation at Altadore. The club is replacing old carpet with easy-to-keep-clean tiles. A big improvement. And adding rubber baseboard to protect the walls.

That’s Stephen slurping the glue.

Unofficial club minutes will be posted linked from the Board page.
Of course they are not official until ratified at the next meeting.
This meeting was all good news — except for one thing. Membership fees went up from $20 to $25 / person to fall in line with the other user groups at Altadore.
This increase is already in effect.
Our drop-in fee is still $6 / night. (That’s $4 cheaper than University of Calgary) Hopefully new members will look at the total cost for a great work-out and see what good value they get at Altadore.

Our club is in great shape in 2006. Much of the credit goes to Bob McGregor.
But Bob has chaired his last meeting. With daughter and son no longer at Altadore, he has moved on to other things. (Confident we can carry on without him!)
Thanks Bob, for everything!
